Site Clean-up

Respect is a cornerstone of our business, and part of upholding that for us is ensuring that we leave every site we step foot on spotless. This means that after completing our excavation work, we will diligently clean up the site and restore it to its original condition or as specified in the project plans.

Project Schedules & Delays

Our long history of completing residential, commercial, and industrial projects means we can estimate project length fairly consistently, but there are some common challenges that we always prepare for and warn clients of ahead of time.

For example, underground utilities can be dangerous if improperly managed, so we work with line locators and employ specialized tools and techniques to avoid hitting pipes and cables while excavating. We maintain specialized equipment to handle difficult terrain like hard rocks or unstable soils. And of course, while we plan all of our projects around favourable weather, heavy rain or extreme cold can always appear unexpectedly. In those situations, we utilize contingency plans.

Careful adherence to all environmental regulations is crucial and involves the acquisition of permits and the implementation of safety measures in order to safeguard the surrounding environment during our operations. These safety measures and especially the permits can take time to set up and obtain; however, we work closely with local authorities to help expedite approvals.

The open communication that we maintain with local authorities also applies to any contractors or subcontractors that we may be working with on large-scale projects. Avoiding delays and conflicts with scheduling is essential to keeping projects moving forward, we’ve found that honesty, organization, and collaboration help to keep a smooth workflow regardless of how many other companies are involved.

Of course, we immediately call you as the client to discuss any new challenges that arise over the course of the project, so that everyone understands why and how they will be managed to give you the quickest, safest, and most cost-effective solutions.

Budget Management

Budget management is often a concern for our clients and it remains one of our top priorities at every stage of our projects. We carefully monitor expenses to ensure that we take every precaution to stay inside the budget that we originally agreed upon. Job scheduling is determined by several factors including the urgency of the project, the client’s timeline, and the time of year. If there are other contractors involved and depending on if you’re hiring Hodgins Excavating to be the general contractor, we may also be coordinating with other companies to ensure the project runs as smoothly as possible. No matter what your situation looks like, we will always prioritize open communication with both you and any other contractors in order to complete a job as efficiently as possible while maintaining the quality and service that we are known for.

All permits and licenses are obtained prior to starting the project. In the case of emergency excavations, we can call in emergency permits to help move the project forward in a timely manner.

Usually, if you’re receiving pricing from us, it will be a quote. After inspecting the project site and speaking directly to the property or business owner, we’ll confirm the necessary details and create an official quote that will either be emailed or hand delivered to you.

If you have requested an budget estimate of the price or a rush job, we’ll create a budget estimate. Budget estimates are a rough approximation of the overall job cost. This is based on our years of experience and the information that you can provide us about the job. As estimates, these figures are far more subject to change than an official quote.

You also have the option to proceed with projects at a cost plus materials, which means that we will charge you an hourly rate plus the cost of materials. We’re here to work with you to find a solution that best fits your problems and budget

Every project is different, so we’ll discuss the timeframe for your project with you before we begin a job to make sure it will suit your needs and schedule. If you’re interested in some of the common issues and delays that can arise in construction projects and how we handle them, please view the Project Schedules & Delays area on this page to learn more.

We understand that excavation and demolition are dangerous jobs by nature, so we have several standardized safety measures that we put in place with every project. If you want to discuss specialized safety concerns, you can contact us and we’ll make a plan for the best way to handle your project.

Any unused materials from a project are recycled whenever possible. When we can’t recycle, the material is taken to the closest authorized dump sites. We will never leave excess material or other debris on a project site once our work is completed. At Hodgins Excavating, we take extreme care to ensure that our excavation sites are restored either to their original condition or as specified in the project plans.

We make every effort to stick to the agreed upon scope and schedule, but we can’t predict everything. When unexpected issues come up, we notify operations of any changes to the scope of work, and then we contact the property owner as soon as possible. The property owner, with advice from us, will make any final decisions regarding how we should move forward as this can impact the budget and schedule.

50% down payment prior to the project beginning, then remainder due upon job completion. We accept cheques, exact cash, and credit cards; however, if you choose to pay by credit card, we do have to add 3% to the bill for payment processing charges.

You can always send a message through our website, but if you need to get a hold of us immediately, please call or text 250.961.9996, and we’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
